Not sure what’s causing your drainage problem?
Some drainage problems have an obvious cause. Others don't.
If a drain keeps blocking, you're noticing unexplained smells or slow drainage, or you suspect there may be damage below ground, a CCTV drain inspection can help us get to the source of the problem.
By passing a specialist camera through the pipework, we can see what's happening inside your drainage system without immediately resorting to excavation. That means we can identify the problem first and recommend the right next step based on what we actually find.
When might you need a CCTV drain survey?
A CCTV drain survey isn't only useful when something goes wrong. A drain camera inspection can help diagnose an existing problem or simply give you a clearer understanding of the condition of your drainage system.
You might consider a CCTV drain survey if:
Your drains keep blocking, even after they've been cleared
You're experiencing unexplained drainage problems, such as smells or slow-running drains
Damage to the pipework is suspected
Tree roots or another obstruction may have entered the drain
You're buying a property and want to understand the condition of the drainage system before you commit
You're selling a property and want to identify or address potential drainage issues
You want a full inspection of your drainage system, even if there isn't an obvious current problem
You need further investigation before deciding whether a repair is necessary

How we inspect your drains
During a CCTV drain survey, specialist camera equipment is passed through your drainage system, giving us a clear view of the inside of the pipework without the need for excavation.
The inspection can help identify problems including cracks, damaged or displaced pipes, root intrusion, stubborn blockages and other defects that may be affecting your drainage system.
Where needed, we can also use sonde tracing to pinpoint the location of underground drains or a problem identified during the survey. This helps us establish where the drainage system runs below ground and locate areas that may need further investigation or repair.
Once the inspection is complete, we’ll explain what we’ve found and what it means. Whether you’re investigating a specific problem, buying or selling a property, or simply checking the condition of your drains, you’ll have a much clearer picture of what’s happening below ground.
What happens if we find a problem?
Finding a problem during a CCTV drain inspection doesn’t automatically mean your drains need to be dug up.
The right solution depends on what we find and the extent of the issue. Some problems may simply require the drain to be cleared, while damaged pipework may be suitable for a no-dig drain lining repair.
Where damage is more extensive, excavation and replacement may be necessary.
We’ll explain what we’ve found, talk you through the options and recommend the appropriate next step — without unnecessary work.

A CCTV inspection can help identify cracked or damaged pipework, displaced joints, root intrusion, stubborn obstructions and other defects within the drainage system. It can also help us understand why a drain keeps blocking or isn't flowing as it should.
-
Yes. If a drain keeps blocking after it has been cleared, a camera inspection can help identify whether an underlying problem is contributing to it, rather than simply treating the blockage each time.
-
A CCTV drain survey can give you useful information about the condition of a property's drainage system before you buy. It may identify damage, blockages or other issues that wouldn't necessarily be visible during a standard property inspection.
If you're considering a survey before purchasing a property, call us to discuss what you need from the inspection.
-
Following your survey, you’ll receive a WinCan report, giving you a clear record of the CCTV inspection and the condition of your drainage system.
WinCan is specialist drainage inspection software that brings together the findings from your survey, helping you understand what has been identified and any areas that may need attention.
We’ll also talk you through the findings and explain any recommended next steps, so you’re clear on what the survey means for your property.
-
Yes. Where needed, DrainAid can use sonde tracing alongside a CCTV drain inspection to help pinpoint the location of underground pipework or a defect identified during the survey.
A transmitter within the drainage system sends a signal that can be detected from above ground, helping us establish where the drain runs and locate the area requiring further investigation or repair. This can help avoid unnecessary excavation by allowing any subsequent work to be more accurately targeted.
